Vineyards

Controlling the grape-growing process is fundamental to consistently producing wines of the highest quality. In 2003, we acquired a 25-acre vineyard in Mendoza, Argentina to assure the quality of our grapes year after year.

The original owner planted the vineyard, located 1050 meters above sea level in the shadow of the Andes, to malbec and tempranillo in the 1960s and early 1970s. The vineyard had been nearly abandoned prior to our arrival and we have spent the last four years nursing it back to a healthy state. The vines have recuperated beautifully and have reached an age at which they contribute a wonderful complexity to our wine.

We named the vineyard Finca Los Vencejos in honor of the white-collared swifts that we see here after rainfalls, catching bugs in breathtaking flights in the evening sky.
